Lammerskraal thoroughbreds earned an impressive average earnings index –runners from the farm’s average winning index being R142 122. This placed them fifth on South Africa’s Leading Breeders by AEPR (Average Earnings Per Runner). The farm’s nine stakes winners for the past 2015-2016 season won no fewer than 12 black type races, and Lammerskraal ended the season as South Africa’s leading breeders by stakes winners (9) bred.

Among the numerous high class runners to represent Lammerskraal Stud last season, the mighty Abashiri was arguably the standout. A son of the farm’s red hot resident sire Go Deputy, Abashiri became the first horse since Louis The King to win the South African Triple Crown (Gauteng Guineas, SA Classic, SA Derby) and picked up a handsome R2  000 000 bonus in the process. Out of the deceased mare Donya, Abashiri must rate among the leading contenders for Equus Award glory.

Other stakes winners to represent Lammerskraal last season was G1 Mercury Sprint hero Red Ray (himself a leading contender for the Equus Champion Sprinter title) G2 Gold Bracelet winner Flying Ice, Listed East Coast Cup winner Deputy Ryder (who also finished third to Flying Ice in the G2 Gold Bracelet) and East Cape champion Gogetthesheriff –another by Go Deputy!
