The Lammerskraal Stud bred champion Capetown Noir, who is currently standing at Summerhill Stud in KZN, has been represented by some imposing looking first foals this season.
The son of Lammerskraal’s late, great Western Winter was well supported in his first season at stud –and was the covering sire on the top priced lot at the 2016 KZN Mare And Weanling Sale –seven time stakes winner National Navigator.
Capetown Noir’s first crop include a filly out of the blue blooded and winning Fort Wood mare Plush.
A half sister to former record priced yearling buy and G3 Peninsula Handicap hero Wonder Lawn, Plush is out of the G1 winning Roy mare Velvet Green.
Ruby Eaglechild is another mare to have produced an impressive looking Capetown Noir foal –the dam (who is from the same family as Western Winter G1 winners Nania, Red Ray and Set Afire), is a dual winning half sister to the dam of G3 Cape Nursery hero Captain Chaos.
Out of former Broodmare Of The Year Akinfeet, Capetown Noir was sold to Khaya Racing for R1 000 000 at the 2011 National Sale.
The magnificent colt would go on to win eight races and over R2.7 million in prize money. Capetown Noir’s principal wins included both the G1 Cape Guineas and G1 Cape Derby and he trained on to land the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.
His Fort Wood sired dam Akinfeet was a smart racefilly who ran third in the UAE 1000 Guineas and, apart from Capetown Noir, is the dam of G3 August Stakes winner Across The Ice and the stakes placed filly Maxixe.
