Mid-week double for Lammerskraal

Mid-week double for Lammerskraal

Lammerskraal, who were honoured at August’s Equus Awards ceremony with an award of Outstanding Breeder, have made a cracking start to the 2016-2017 racing season.

The farm had another mid-week double, when Marshall That and Mr Roy (Lammerskraal’s only representatives on the day) won their respective heats at Scottsville on Wednesday.

A son of champion sire Fort Wood, Marshall That made a big impression when breaking his maiden by five lengths over 1400m –despite returning from a returning from a lengthy layoff.
Making just his third outing, Marshall That looks like building on this success and should give owners Mike and Norma Rattray plenty to cheer about.
He is out of the six time stakes winning Western Winter mare She’s All That (whose dam won the G2 SA Fillies Guineas), and Marshall That is a half brother to G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes runner up Kilcoy Castle (Kabool) and the stakes placed filly Berlinetta (Jet Master).

The blue blooded Mr Roy (he is by Western Winter out of a daughter of Lammerskraal’s late, great broodmare Nacarat) looked really smart as a 2yo, when finishing third, to Equus Champion Seventh Plain, in the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes and fifth, to the same horse, in the G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion.
The Alyson Wright trained gelding made it career win number three when defeating favourite Monte Christo in a graduation plate by half a length.
