Lammerskraal shine at Cape Premier Yearling Sale

Lammerskraal enjoyed a truly magnificent session at the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, which took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre this past Saturday and Sunday.
The farm, which also purchased a beautifully bred daughter of Var and G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Captain’s Lover for R3.6 million, ended the 2017 CPYS as the fifth leading vendors by aggregate –despite only offering five lots on the sale.

Sovereign Sway

Lammerskraal’s lots to sell fetched a total of R11.625 million and averaged a whopping R2.325 million- making them by far and away the top vendors by average.

Top lot sold by the farm was a magnificent Dynasty colt, who was knocked down to Wehann Smith’s Kuda Holdings for R5.75 million. The price made the colt the top lot sold on the second, and final day, of the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Wehann said after the purchase, “He’s a lovely individual that has a real stallion’s pedigree. Both have been bought for a syndicate of buyers.”

The son of Dynasty, who has been named Sovereign Sway, is out of Jet Master’ G1 Woolavington 2000 winner Viva Maria and was catalogued as lot 220. The latter is a half sister to high class fillies Bichette and Blizzard Belle, and her half-brother Warrior’s Rest is a runner in Saturday’s R1 000 000 Kuda Sprint.

Lammerskraal’s second top lot sold was another colt by Dynasty, Starship Legacy. The latter, catalogued as lot 194, was knocked down to Coolmore Australia for R4.5 million.

Starship Legacy

Bred on the same cross as Dynasty stars It’s My Turn, Solid Speed and Run For It, Starship Legacy is a half brother to six winners including G1 Cape Guineas winner Solo Traveller and G2 KRA Fillies Guineas runner up Strawberry Ice (the latter now dam of G2 Gold Bracelet winner Flying Ice).
