Bishop’s Bounty lifts Diadem Stakes!

Lammerskraal Stud has enjoyed a tremendous run of success already in 2018 and the farm were represented by a major feature race winner when the Lammerskraal Stud bred Bishop’s Bounty won the G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday.

The handsome chestnut gelding, one of two feature race winners on the day for trainer Justin Snaith and jockey Grant Van Niekerk, produced an impressive turn of foot to come from well off the pace in Saturday’s 1200m contest and win going away.

In the process, the Michael Leaf owned chestnut accounted for no fewer than ten graded stakes winners, headed by Equus Champions Always In Charge and Talktothestars.

Remarkably, Bishop’s Bounty’s full brother, Brutal Force, was one of the graded stakes winners beaten by Bishop’s Bounty on Saturday.

Now a five time winner, Bishop’s Bounty pushed his earnings to just short of R700 000 in landing the first graded race of his career. The gelding had previously finished second in the Listed Sophomore Sprint.

Bishop’s Bounty is a true Lammerskraal Stud bred through and through. Not only is the four-year-old a son of the farm’s late great sire Western Winter, he is out of Lammerskraal’s magnificent broodmare Nacarat (sadly also now deceased).

The 2018 Diadem Stakes winner is one of six stakes winners out of N acarat, who is also dam of the Western Winter sired G1 winners Nania and Red Ray (the latter having completed his first season at Klawervlei Stud last year).

Bishop’s Bounty was a R1 400 000 purchase from the 2015 CTS Ready To Run Sale Presented by Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.
