Weekend treble for Lammerskraal

Lammerskraal Stud enjoyed a memorable double when the farm was responsible for a trio of eye catching winners.
First of the Lammerskraal bred thoroughbreds to score was the hugely exciting two-year-old Russet Air.

The regally bred What A Winter gelding was dispatched the 6-10 favourite for the third race at Kenilworth on Saturday and duly obliged, with the big gelding always holding stable mate More Magic to record a cosy 0.4 of a length win over 1200 metres.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson for owners Brian and Kathy Finch, Russet Air is the sixth winner produced by Equus Champion and dual Oaks winner Icy Air.

The latter has already four stakes horses to her credit, and Russet Air could well be another!

Lammerskraal had a memorable double on Sunday, with the half-brothers Finlay (by Go Deputy) and Evolver (by Gimmethegreenlight) winning at Borrowdale and Turffontein respectively.

Evolver and Finlay were both produced by the three time winning Western Winter mare Flaming Flower, a full-sister to August Stakes winner Storm Crossing.

The farm’s late, great broodmare Nacarat also made her mark over the weekend, with that daughter of Pas De Quoi featuring as the granddam of Saturday winner Mixed Signals.
A half-sister to a Captain Al colt who fetched R3 300 000 at the recent National Sale, the 2yo Mixed Signals (by Gimmethegreenlight) justified favouritism by breaking her maiden by a comfortable one and a quarter lengths, at just the second time of asking, and she looks another smart runner.
She is out of Nacarat’s East Cape Oaks winning daughter Valor Red –who was sired by Lammerskraal’s champion sire Western Winter.
