Lammerskraal Stud’s star broodmare Strawberry Lane was honoured for her remarkable achievements when the daughter of Jallad was named the Cape Breeders’ Broodmare Of The Year for 2017-2018 at the annual Cape awards ceremony held at the Vineyard Hotel on Wednesday.

The winning sister to G3 Pretty Polly winner Jalberry was represented by her second G1 winner last season when her Lammerskraal Stud bred and owned daughter Redberry Lane (by Lammerskraal’s late sire Western Winter) captured the 2018 G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes on Vodacom Durban July day.

To date, Redberry Lane has won or placed in ten of her 15 outings and has banked nearly R1 million in prize money. A newly turned five-year-old, the progressive Redberry Lane stays in training this season.

She is the second top flight winner for her dam, who is also dam of Solo Traveller (winner of the 2010 G1 Cape Guineas) as well as G2 KRA Fillies Guineas runner up Strawberry Ice, the dam of Go Deputy sired Gold Bracelet victress Flying Ice. Both Solo Traveller and Strawberry Ice were sired by Western Winter.

Strawberry Lane, a leading contender for the Equus Broodmare Of The Year title, visits Lammerskraal’s increasingly successful resident sire Visionaire in 2018.
