Award for Go Deputy daughter

The Lammerskraal Stud bred Widow’s Lamp was named the East Cape Champion 3YO Filly for the 2017-2018 season, at an awards evening which took place at Fairview Racecourse on Saturday evening.

Trained by Yvette  Bremner, and owned by Braam Van Huyssteen, Hedley McGrath and Anthony Williams, Widow’s Lamp won five races last season including the Listed East Cape Oaks.

Runner up to American Landing in the 2018 East Cape Derby, Widow’s Lamp has already earned more than R430 000 in stakes.

Widow’s Lamp is a daughter of Lammerskraal’s successful sire Go Deputy, whose stock continue to fare well around the country.
Go Deputy, whose son Rap Attack won at Mauritius over the weekend, is no stranger to producing high class fillies, with his other notable daughters including exported G2 Gold Bracelet winner Flying Ice, Listed Aquanaut Handicap heroine Tambalang, multiple stakes winner Adobe Pink,  and the very smart Flichity By Farr.

The latter was second in both the G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks and G3 DStv Gold Vase (to Equus Champion It’s My Turn) last season and she, like Widow’s Lamp, was produced by a daughter of Western Winter.

Remarkably, Widow’s Lamp was one of two Lammerskraal bred horses to pick up an East Cape Award this year -the Lammerskraal bred Exelero was named the region’s Champion Sprinter after winning the 2018 Listed East Cape Sprint Cup.

Exelero, who has won 8 races and banked R892 375 in prize money, is a son of the farm’s late, great Western Winter and the four time winning Badger Land mare Landaulet.
