The Lammerskraal Stud bred Abashiri features prominently among the nominations for the 2015-2016 Equus Award nominations.

A son of the farm’s resident sire Go Deputy, Abashiri has been nominated as Equus Champion Three Year Old Colt and Equus Champion Stayer.

His Equus claims are strong –Abashiri won five of seven races during the past season, with his winning streak including the South African Triple Crown. That series saw Abashiri land the G2 Gauteng Guineas (by two and a half lengths), the G1 SA Classic (by 3.75 lengths) and G1 SA Derby.

The champ has earned R3 440 000 to date, and picked up a R2 000 000 bonus for his Triple Crown sweep.

Trained by Michael Azzie and owned by Adriaan and Rika Van Vuuren, Abashiri was a R400 000 purchase from the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
