Lammerskraal’s resident stallion Visionaire and Go Deputy both enjoyed memorable weekends, with both sires represented by feature race winners at Turffontein on Saturday.
Visionaire was represented by his second G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner from just three crops when daughter Takingthepeace won the R500 000 first leg of South Africa’s Triple Tiara on Saturday.
Trained by Mike de Kock for owners Messrs Makepeace, De Kock and Shea, Takingthepeace was given a superb ride by Callan Murray. The latter timed his ride to perfection, and bought Takingthepeace with an off the pace rally to score a neck win going away.
It was a first graded win for the filly, who has now won or placed in seven of just eight races, with Takingthepeace having already banked more than R800 000 in prize money.
The Summerhill Stud bred Takingthepeace was a R280 000 purchase from the 2016 CTS Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale.
She is the second Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner for her sire, with Visionaire’s previous winner being the talented Heaps Of Fun.
Visionaire is enjoying another superb season, with his top performers including such graded stakes winners as the above mentioned Takingthepeace and exported G2 The Merchants winner The Thinker. The son of Grand Slam is also sire of eye catching recent debut winner Helios, while another son, the Sean Tarry trained Africa Rising, downed Equus Champion Mustaaqeem recently in a progress plate over 1200m.
Proven sire Go Deputy had a day to remember at Turffontein this past Saturday. The G1 winning millionaire had just three runners on the day, but they included G2 Hawaii Stakes third Full Mast and Listed Aquanaut Handicap winner Tambalang.
Bred by Lammerskraal, and trained by Sean Tarry, the talented Tambalang picked up the first feature race win of her career when downing male rivals to land the Aquanaut by a length and a quarter.
Owned by Chris Van Niekerk and Sean Tarry Racing CC, Tambalang, who was trying the 2400m trip for a first time on Saturday, has now won or placed in 12 of just 16 races. The filly, who had previously finished second in the G3 Fillies Mile, is out of the winning Western Winter mare Salita. Z
Her paternal half-brother Full Mast is one of several smart 3yos representing Go Deputy this year. Others include likely Breeders Guineas contender Widow’s Lamp and the promising filly Felichity By Farr.
