Cantabella in foal to Var

Lammerskraal’s blue blooded mare Cantabella has been safely tested in foal to prominent speed sire Var.
The daughter of Galileo was bought by the farm for R3.1 million at last year’s inaugural Emperors Palace Mare & Fillies For Stud Select Sale, where she was the second top lot sold.

Cantabella has strong claims to being one of the best bred mares currently at stud in South Africa.

Not only is she by the world’s premier sire Galileo (whose daughters have already produced such major classic winners as Night Of Thunder, Qualify, and La Cressonniere), but Cantabella is a full-sister to G3 Coral.ie Munster Oaks winner Pretty Perfect. The latter also ran a close second to former Cartier Champion Simple Verse in the G2 DFS Park Hill Stakes and was rated good enough to take her chances in the Breeders’ Cup.

Cantabella is out of G1 Australasian Oaks runner up Milanova (Danehill) –making her bred on the same Galileo/Danehill cross as the undefeated legend Frankel as well as such standout G1 winners as Golden Lilac, Roderic O’Connor, Tapestry and 2016 G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Highland Reel.

Milanova, in turn, is a full-sister to champion Holy Roman Emperor, now a successful sire of more than 60 stakes winners including champion Designs On Rome and 1000 Guineas winner Homecoming Queen.

This is the same family as champion Australian sires Encosta De Lago and Flying Spur.
