Exelero lifts East Cape Sprint Cup

The Lammerskraal Stud bred Exelero won the first feature race of his victory, when he lifted the Listed East Cape Sprint Cup over 1200m at Fairview on Good Friday.
One of four runners in the race for trainer Tara Laing, the seven-year-old Exelero dug down deep to record a head win at the expense of tote favourite Juan Two Three.

It was another two lengths back to the speedy Easy Street-whose wins include the Listed Milkwood Stakes.

Ridden to victory by Callan Murray, Exelero was posting the seventh win of his career, and the gelding has now banked R825 550.

Joint top lot sold off the 2012 CTS Ready To Run Sale, Exelero is one of nearly 90 stakes winners sired by Lammerskraal’s deceased triple champion sire Western Winter. The latter has been making news the world over, and his other notable recent performers include exported Gr1 Sun Met second Last Winter, and Gr2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes hero Bishop’s Bounty.

Out of the Badger Land mare Landaulet, Exelero is a full-brother to high class Mauritian galloper Master Mascus.

The gelding had previously been placed in five pattern races, with Exelero’s top previous efforts including a third place finish in the 2016 Gr1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint.
