Lammerskraal Stud enjoyed a very successful spell over the Easter weekend.
The Ceres based farm was responsible for three very impressive South African winners, including Listed East Cape Sprint Cup hero Exelero.
The latter took his earnings to over R825 000 with a courageous win over a field which included the Lammerskraal bred Gr2 The Merchants winner Brutal Force, as well as the smart sprinters Juan Two Three, Easy Street, Omega Onslaught, and Captain Alfredo.
Another impressive weekend winner bred by Lammerskraal was Kapen Pride. Trained by Dean Kannemeyer for Mike and Norma Rattray, the progressive three-year-old gelding made it win number three, from just nine outings, when justifying 5-4 favouritism over 1600m on the polytrack at Greyville on Friday night.
A Silvano half-brother to Lammerskraal bred Gr3 Kings’ Cup hero Bulleting Home, Kapen Pride was a R650 000 buy from the 2016 National Yearling Sale.
Another Lammerskraal bred runner, Widow’s Lamp, filled the second spot in Friday’s Oaks Plate at Fairview.
However, it was two-year-old Fabian who was arguably the most impressive of the weekend trio of winners.
Owned by Bryn Ressell and Marsh Shirtliff, the son of What A Winter made all to break his maiden, at just the second time out, by a length and a quarter. His trainer Candice Bass-Robinson said of the colt, “He is a really nice horse, who is a clone of his sire.”
Fabian is touted to perhaps follow in the footsteps of another Bass-Robinson trained What A Winter colt –Dutch Philip.
A R500 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale, Fabian is out of the winning Parade Leader mare Furina, a full-sister to Equus Champion Laverna and half-sister to the Western Winter sired Gr3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner Nevvay.
Furina has a Duke Of Marmalade half-brother (Lot 155) on offer at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, which takes place in Germiston from April 24th to April 26th.
