While Lammerskraal’s successful resident stallion Go Deputy continues to be plagued by small numbers of runners to represent him at the track, the millionaire son of Deputy Minister, nonetheless, continues to make his mark felt at the track.
Go Deputy, whose daughter Flichity By Farr stamped her big race claims when a good second in the recent G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks, had another good weekend this week, enjoying success at Greyville on Sunday, and daughter Widow’s Lamp putting in a big effort against male rivals just a day earlier.
His three-year-old daughter Liverpool Lass made a winning polytrack debut when scoring a length maiden victory for trainer Johan Janse Van Vuuren at Greyville on Sunday. Bred by Bruce Campbell, the filly was steered to victory by Lyle Hewitson.
Yvette Bremner trains Go Deputy filly Widow’s Lamp, who accounted for all but one of her 12 rivals when second in Saturday’s Listed WSB East Cape Derby this past weekend. Bred by Lammerskraal, the talented filly was coming off a facile two and a quarter length romp in the Listed East Cape Oaks, and Widow’s Lamp clearly rates as among the leaders of her generation in the Eastern Cape.
Widow’s Lamp, whose half-sister, by Master Of My Fate, made R300 000 at the recent National Sale, has now won or placed in 13 of her 15 outings, and Saturday’s second place pushed her earnings to over R430 000.
Go Deputy, also responsible for July hope and recent G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge second Abashiri, has had just 11 3yos race this season thus far, but they include the above mentioned pair of Felichity By Farr and Widow’s Lamp as well as the very smart Full Mast. The latter, who has won or placed in seven of his ten outings, caught the eye when running third to older rival Will Pays in the recent G2 Hawaii Stakes over 1400 metres.
