The Lammerskraal Stud bred Kilauea showed her class with a defeat of some high class fillies and mares when landing a conditions plate over 1450m at Turffontein on Saturday.
The talented four-year-old, who races for owners Danny and Ronel Collins, made it career win number three when scoring a short head win at the expense of Redoute’s Choice G1 SA Nursery runner up Shaama.
Further back in the field were such smart stakes performers as Crystal Glamour, Polyphonic, Swift Sarah and G3 winner Sensible Lover.
The David Niewenhuizen trained Kilauea, a daughter of last season’s Champion Sire Trippi, looked promising last season when her best efforts included a close up second in the G2 Camellia Stakes and she also finished fourth in the G3 Jo’burg Spring F&M Challenge.
She is out of the Fort Wood mare Kyllachy, who won four and was second in the G3 Gold Bracelet. A very well related mare, Kyllachy is not only a half-sister to G1 SA Derby winner Kale but is a three parts sister to ill-fated G2 KRA Guineas winner Dunsinane.
This is also the family of multiple G1 winner Carry On Alice, winner of the recent G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship.
