Easton Angel, the 500 000 guineas sales topper on the first day of the 2017 Tattersalls February Sale, hails from a family which has served Lammerskraal very well.
The daughter of Dark Angel’s fourth dam is none other than the winning Vice Regent mare Chilly Hostess.
The latter produced none other than Western Winter, who stood at Lammerskraal and headed the South African Sires List on three occasions.
Among his numerous top class performers are the champions Argonaut, Bad Girl Runs, Ice Cube, What A Winter, Winter Solstice and Yard-Arm (the latter pair both being named Horse Of The Year).
Western Winter continues to be well represented at Lammerskraal through a number of top class daughters –including Fair Maiden (G1 Empress Club Stakes) and Bichette (G2 Camellia Stakes), while his champion son What A Winter has made an extremely bright start to his stud career.
Chilly Hostess is also dam of useful racemare, and Lammerskraal broodmare, Kapen Cat. A three time winning daughter of Lion Hearted, Kapen Cat is the dam of three winners, including five time scorer Bulleting Home. The latter holds an entry in Saturday week’s Listed Wolf Power 1600 at Turffontein.
Easton Angel, whose price set a new record in the 18 year history of the Tatts sale, is a dual listed winner over five furlongs who finished second in the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot and third in the group 2 Lowther Stakes at York. She was purchased by Mick Flanagan, who said of his buy, “She has been bought to breed from, but I have been told that she has plenty of racing left in her, so we do have options. We’ll let the dust settle from here and take a view. But she is a quick filly, a gorgeous physical and moves like a panther.”
