Wednesday’s Greyville meeting proved another great one for Lammerskraal. The stud were responsible for breeding two of the nine winners on the day, while exciting new Lammerskraal sire Visionaire is the sire of Sambora, who was victorious in the day’s last race.
Both Lammerskraal winners are daughters of the farm’s late, great sire Western Winter.
First of the two Lammerskraal bred thoroughbreds to score on Wednesday was Icy Spirit, who broke her maiden in fine style in the afternoon’s second race.
The three-year-old filly showed tremendous courage to dig down deep and land the spoils in a maiden plate over 1200m.
Icy Spirit is out of the winning Rakeen mare Blythe Spirit –whose half sister, G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Fine Feather is the dam of Saturday’s G1 Mercury Sprint contender Barbosa.
Lammerskraal’s second Wednesday winner came in the form of Chamber Maid –a grand daughter of the farm’s sadly now deceased outstanding mare Nacarat.
A full sister to the G3 performer Mr Roy, the 2yo Chamber Maid made much of the running to land a maiden plate over 1200m in smart style –leaving another daughter of Western Winter, Iced Up, back in second.
A flashy chestnut, Chamber Maid was making her first start on the polytrack.
