Friday night’s inaugural CTS Mares And Fillies For Stud Select Sale saw Lammerskraal steal the show.
Not only was Lammerskraal the leading buyer at the sale, but the farm was also the sales’ fourth top leading vendor.
Lammerskraal, who sold two lots for a gross total of R1,900,000, bought the sales’ top two lots, and both mares look really exciting prospects for the stud.
Imperious Star, who was the sales’ top lot at R3,200 000, was a top class racemare, whose five wins included the G1 Woolavington Stakes (beating G1 winners Flirtation, Gluwein, Spiced Gold and Field Flower), and G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes.
Not only was Imperious Star (whose first foal is G1 2yo Double Appeal) a superb athlete, she is also very well bred –she is out of the now deceased champion, and former G1 J&B Met winner Imperious Sue (by Northern Guest), and is from the same family as recent G1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint winner Real Princess, and ill-fated sire and champion Victory Moon –to name just two. She sold in foal to Cartier Champion and classic sire Duke Of Marmalade, and Imperious Star must surely rate as one of the most exciting broodmare prospects in South Africa.
Lammerskraal also picked up the stunningly well bred Cantabella, whose own sister, Pretty Perfect, won the G3 Munster Oaks on Sunday to add to her previous success in the Listed Salsabil Stakes. The talented Pretty Perfect holds entries in all of the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes, G1 Pretty Polly Stakes, G1 Irish Oaks, and G2 Kilboy Estate Stakes and she looks sure to add yet more glamour to this already superb family.
Cantabella and Pretty Perfect (both daughters of the world’s premier sire Galileo), are out of the G3 winner and G1 Australasian Oaks runner up Milanova. The latter is a full sister to champion 2yo and top class sire Holy Roman Emperor, and this is also the family of such outstanding sires as Encosta De Lago, Flying Spur and Lode –as well as the legendry racemare and producer Fanfreluche.
Cantabella (who sold in foal to champion sire Captain Al) was bought for R3 100 000 –and she looks a young mare capable achieving truly great things!
Lammerskraal also enjoyed notable success as vendors at the sale, selling Dubai Dancing (an own sister to Equus Champion Capetown Noir) for R900 000 (she was sold to Mayfair Speculators), and three time winner Strawberry Line (a sister to G1 winner Solo Traveller) for R1 000 000. Strawberry Line, also bought by Mayfair Speculators, sold in foal to multiple G1 winner Wylie Hall, while Dubai Dancing was in foal to Jet Master’s son Master Of My Fate.
