The Lammerskraal Stud bred and owned Redberry Lane showed her class with a brilliant, battling win over multiple G1 winner Snowdance in the G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes on Vodacom Durban July day at Greyville this past Saturday.
Trained by Sean Tarry, the gutsy Redberry Lane was given a superb ride by log-leading rider Lyle Hewitson who produced the four-year-old filly with a late challenge to snare tote favourite, and this season’s G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas winner, Snowdance, on the line in Saturday’s 1600m contest.
Picking up the first G1 victory of her career, Redberry Lane was enjoying back to back feature race victories, having previously impressed considerably when landing the Listed Syringa Handicap at her penultimate start.
The Western Winter filly has now won or placed in ten of just 15 outings, with Saturday’s G1 victory pushing Redberry Lane’s earnings to R949 025.
Redberry Lane is yet another feather in the cap of both Lammerskraal and the stud’s late, triple champion sire Western Winter.
The latter, who left behind over 20 G1 winners during his stellar stud career, has once again reminded the racing community of what a loss his death was this season.
Redberry Lane aside, Western Winter has also been responsible this season for G1 Computaform Sprint winner Attenborough, Highlands Stud Stormsvlei Fillies Mile winner Fresnaye and the now exported G1 Sun Met runner up Last Winter.
The 2018 Garden Province Stakes winner now surely rates as one of the most exciting broodmare prospects in South Africa.
Redberry Lane is out of the outstanding, winning Jallad mare Strawberry Lane, whose six previous winners including Redberry Lane’s dual Guineas winning own brother Solo Traveller.
