Madison’s Luna, a half-brother to Lammerskraal Stud’s exciting resident sire Visionaire, showed his class when romping to an impressive win in Saturday’s Gr3 Hutcheson Stakes run at Gulfstream Park.
A son of Tapit, Madison’s Luna made it two wins from as many outings when romping home to a facile five length triumph in the Hutcheson-a race won previously by the likes of leading sire More Than Ready and champions Housebuster, Fly So Free, Holy Bull, Swale and the legendary Spectacular Bid.
In the process, Madison’s Luna gave trainer Philip Bauer his first win at Gulfstream.
Bauer commented after the eye catching victory, ““I’m very pleased—maybe a little surprised how he did it. He left me a little surprised in his maiden win at Tampa, too. He cruised up to the pretty honest pace. You’re always excited when they get to the quarter pole in that manner. We were excited when Julien turned him loose and put a few (lengths) on them and maintained it. I think he’ll stretch out. We saw how he can relax behind horses. He does everything the right way, especially for a Tapit—sometimes they can be temperamental.”
The unbeaten colt is now likely to be aimed at the Gr3 Pat Day Mile on the Kentucky Derby undercard.
He is the fourth graded stakes winner produced by the remarkable French Deputy mare Scarlet Tango. Herself a four time winner who was runner up in the Laura Gal Stakes, Scarlet Tango is also dam of Gr1 King’s Bishop Stakes winning sire Visionaire (by Grand Slam), Gr1 Santa Margarita Stakes winner Tara’s Tango (by Unbridled’s Song), and Gr3 Providencia Stakes winner Scarlet Strike (by Smart Strike).
Madison’s Luna’s half-brother Visionaire is enjoying another tremendous season, with his notable runners including Gr2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner Takingthepeace. The former Leading First Crop Sire will be represented by a single lot at the 2018 April Yearling Sale but Visionaire has 18 yearlings on sale at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
