Weekend double for Visionaire

Weekend double for Visionaire

Lammerskraal Stud’s successful sire Visionaire enjoyed a double over the past weekend, with the G1 winner’s runners scoring in two different provinces over the last weekend.

First of Visionaire’s runners to win was the consistent Breakfast Club (his sire’s only runner at Fairview on the day). The latter, bred by Summerhill, made it win number six when scoring a two and a half length win, over Dahlia Plate hero Alfeo, over 1200m at Fairview on Friday. Trained by Alan Greeff, and steered home by Greg Cheyne, Breakfast Club had previously won the WSB East Cape Polytrack Challenge (2nd leg) back in April and he has now earned over R420 000 in prize money.

G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner Visionaire is also the sire of Caliente, who broke his maiden impressively at Scottsville on Sunday. Trained by Dennis Drier, and ridden to victory by Anton Marcus, the gelded 3yo Caliente put 1.75 lengths between himself and runner up Jet Stream to win as the tote favourite.

Bred by the Summerhill Stud, Caliente is out of Russian Revival mare Lady Red.

Both Caliente and Breakfast Club are owned by Nic Jonsson.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2014-2015, and Leading Second Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Visionaire is well represented on November’s Ready To Run Sale in Johannesburg.  His 33 lots on offer include a half-brother to G1 Summer Cup runner up Shogunnar, a filly out of Thekwini Stakes winner Bridal Paths, and a filly out of Listed Syringa Handicap winner Ithala.
