Starrett City, Kingvoldt impress

Lammerskraal Stud had a pair of eye catching winners on Thursday and Friday, when Starett City and Kingvoldt won their respective races in smart style.

Starrett City, third in the R750 000 Grand Heritage last time out, justified favouritism when winning over 1600m for Geoff Woodruff and Gavin Lerena at Turffontein yesterday evening. He has now won four, with Starrett City having won or placed in 12 of his 15 starts.

A son of Lammerskraal’s triple champion sire Western Winter, the Lammerskraal Stud bred and owned Starett City is a full-brother to dual Guineas winner Solo Traveller and a half-brother to Starship Legacy, who was knocked down to Coolmore Australia at this year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale for R4.5 million.

Former G3 Cape Nursery winner Kingvoldt was one of the leaders of his generation as a two-year-old, and the son of Western Winter made it win number six when making all, under top weight, to score over 1400m at Fairview on Friday for trainer Yvette Bremner. Owned by Braam Van Huyssteen and Hedley McGrath, Kingvoldt also ran third in the G1 Cape Guineas back in 2014.

Another Lammerskraal Stud bred horse to catch the eye was Strawberry Fire, who ran a smart fourth first time out over 1200m at Kenilworth yesterday. A three-year-old daughter of champion sire Silvano, Strawberry Fire is a half-sister to exported G2 Gold Bracelet winner Flying Ice (by Go Deputy).

Starett City and Strawberry Fire’s close relative, by Duke Of Marmalade, sells as lot 127 at next week’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.

Kingvoldt, in turn, is closely related to lot four on Friday’s sale
