Lammerskraal hit the heights at 2017 National Sale

Lammerskraal Stud enjoyed a wonderful weekend just past, with not only the stud enjoying notable success at last week’s National Yearling Sale, but our Starrett City also winning impressively on Champions Day.

Lammerskraal was responsible for the top lot sold on the first day of the 2017 National Yearling Sale, when their colt Matador Step (Lot 42) was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R4 million.

The magnificent looking colt, who was the second top lot sold at this year’s National Sale, is a son of red hot sire Silvano, whose recent winners include the classic winners Al Sahem, Janoobi and Wind Chill and the stakes placed Maxixe –a full-sister to the Lammerskraal Stud bred champion, triple G1 winner and sire Capetown Noir.

Matador Step is also bred on the same cross as classic winners Black Arthur and Wind Chill.

Lammerskraal ended the 2017 National Yearling Sale as the fourth leading vendors, with their 14 lots to sell averaging R529 286.

The regally bred Starrett City, whose half-brother fetched R4.5 million at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale this year, strolled home to win by five and a half lengths over a mile at Turffontein and he looks a well above average customer!

A son of Western Winter and full brother to G1 Cape Guineas winner Solo Traveller, the Geoff Woodruff trained Starrett City has now won two of his last three outings and will not stop here.

Saturday also saw a notable update for the farm’s high class, and beautifully bred mare Mina Salaam.
A daughter of Medaglia D’Oro and champion Circle Of Life, Mina Salaam’s half-brother Deo Juvente created a stir when downing Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle to lift the 2017 G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge and pick up his first G1 victory in the process.

The pair are both out of former champion and G1 Garden Province Stakes winner Circle Of Life, herself a half-sister to the G1 winners African Lion and Zebra Crossing.
Mina Salaam is herself in foal to Horse Of The Year and outstanding sire Dynasty.
