Lammerskraal’s 2017 NYS draft

Lammerskraal Stud will offer a top class draft of 16 lots at the 2017 National Yearling Sale, set to take place at the TBA complex in Germiston from May 3rd to 5th this year.

First of the Lammerskraal draft up for sale is lot 42, a colt by champion sire Silvano –sire of recent G1 winners Nightingale and Orchid Island, and Gauteng Guineas winner Janoobi. This colt (bred on the same cross as another Guineas winning son of Silvano in Black Arthur) is out of a stakes placed five time winning own sister to Equus Champion and young sire Capetown Noir and to stakes winning millionaire Across The Ice. His second dam, by champion sire and broodmare sire Fort Wood, is Broodmare Of The Year Akinfeet.

Last season’s Leading First Crop Sire Gimmethegreenlight (whose first crop has no fewer than six stakes winners in it!) is sire of lot 53- a colt out of a winning own sister to Horse Of The Year and five time G1 winner Yard-Arm, and half sister to graded winner Donya, herself the dam of Triple Crown winner Abashiri. Gimmethegreenlight’s runners continue to take South Africa by storm, with his 2yos including impressive G3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Green Plains.

Exciting young sire Querari, whose first crops include the likes of G1 winning 2yo Querari Falcon and multiple graded stakes winner Kangaroo Jack, is the sire of lot 150 – a half-sister to 2 winners, including this season’s G3 Fillies Mile runner up Tambalang. Her Western Winter sired dam is out of G1 winner Divided Loyalty, and this is the same family as international G1 winning sisters Irridescence and Perfect Promise (with the latter dam of current Australian G3 performer Hard Promise).

More Than Ready’s Queen’s Plate winning son Gimmethegreenlight is sire of lot 233, a filly whose winning dam is a half-sister to multiple G1 winner and Equus Award winning sire Capetown Noir and to high class G3 winner and millionaire Across The Ice. Her second dam was a UAE classic placed Broodmare of the Year, and third dam is Cape Fillies Guineas winner Dance Every Dance, a daughter of champion sire and multiple champion broodmare sire Northern Guest.

Triple Equus Champion What A Winter (a son of Lammerskraal’s late, great sire Western Winter) has made a great start to his stud career and currently ranks as South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire. He is the sire of lot 265, a colt by the name of Ramada. The latter, a half-brother to 2 winners, is out of a winning half-sister to 3 stakes winners including Horse Of The Year Yard-Arm (by Western Winter) and G3 winner Donya, herself dam of Triple Crown champion Abashiri.

The ill-fated Sail From Seattle, already responsible for 11 juvenile winners this season, is the sire of lot 310, a colt by the name of Big Sail. This well bred colt is a half-brother to 4 winners, including G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes winner Fromafar, and this is the same family as Kentucky Derby winner Lil E Tee and G1 winning siblings City Zip and Ghostzapper. The latter pair have both become outstanding sires, with the latter responsible for 2017 Kentucky Derby hopes Iliad and McCraken.

Blue-blooded Master Of My Fate won six of eight starts, including both the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap and is from the same family as Breeders’ Cup winning sire Pluck. He is responsible for Stroke Of Luck (Lot 399), a half-sister to 2 winners, one of whom won five. Stroke Of Luck’s three time winning dam is a own sister to stakes winner Storm Crossing and this is the same family as Horse Of The Year and young sire Irish Flame.
Interestingly, Stroke Of Luck (bred on a similar cross to champion Past Master) is inbred to top class SA sire and outstanding broodmare sire Elliodor!

Equus Outstanding Sire and perennial source of G1 performers Judpot is responsible for lot 400, a colt named Hatton Hall. This colt, inbred to the great racehorse and broodmare sire Secretariat, is out of a four time winning sister in blood to Horse Of The Year and five time G1 winner Yard-Arm, and is also related to Triple Crown winner Abashiri and fellow graded winners Current Event and Donya.

Master Of My Fate is responsible for lot 408, a colt named Master Of Fire. He is a three-parts brother to G3 filly Red Flame (by Master of My Fate’s sire Jet Master) and a half-brother to 5 other winners, with his dam having a 100% strike rate with her runners to date. This beautifully bred colt (another bred like former Met winner Past Master) is out of a four time winning own sister to triple G1 winner Set Afire and ½ sister to G1 Summer Cup winner Rudra. His dam is also a sister in blood to G1 winning new sire Red Ray, G1 winning 2yo Nania and top class sprinter Brutal Force.

Multiple champion sprinter What A Winter, whose first crop include impressive feature race winner Fort Winter, and debut winners Dutch Philip, Magical Wonderland, is the sire of lot 415. This colt is out of a winning own sister to champion 2yo filly and G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Laverna, and half-sister to G3 winner Nevvay (who is by What A Winter’s own sire Western Winter). This is the Enchanting family responsible for outstanding sprinters Enchantress, Harry’s Charm, O Caesour and National Currency among others.

Oasis Dream’s champion son Querari is sire of lot 420, a colt by the name of Farland. This bay is a half-brother to the smart stakes filly Astral Athina (dam of smart winner Canigao), and his dam is from the same family as champion filly National Bay (who, like Querari, is by a Danzig line sire).

Cartier Champion and five time G1 winner Duke Of Marmalade (a proven classic sire overseas) has his first SA yearlings on offer this year. He is sire of lot 483 –a colt named Cardinal One. The latter, a half-brother to 3 decent winners, is out of a Western Winter own sister to a Dubai feature race winner and half-sister to Triple Crown winner Abashiri. Cardinal One’s dam is also a sister in blood to champion Yard-Arm.

Danehill’s champion son Duke Of Marmalade is sire of lot 46, a beautifully bred filly out of Medaglia D’Oro’s stakes winning daughter Mina Salaam. The latter, a half-sister to G1 Summer Cup runner up Deo Juvente, is out of champion Circle Of Life –herself a half-sister to 2 G1 winners, including Met winner Zebra Crossing.
Mina Salaam is one of the only daughters of world leading sire Medaglia D’Oro at stud in South Africa –Medaglia D’Oro having 100 stakes winners to his credit, including the champions Rachel Alexandra and Songbird, as well as recent G1 winners New Money Honey, and Dickinson. He is also a proven broodmare sire, with his daughters having already produced the G1 winners Rachel’s Valentina and Rock Fall.

Former champion 2yo Pathfork, sire of impressive recent feature race winning 2yo Precious Pansy, is sire of lot241 –a chestnut colt named Victor Forth. He is out of a four time winning daughter of successful sire Go Deputy and G3 filly Vermilion –an own sister to G1 winners Nania and new sire Red Ray.
