Last Voyage, a grandson of G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winning champion Captain’s Lover and close relative of one of Lammerskraal Stud’s exceptionally well bred new additions, made an eye catching winning debut for Godolphin at Windsor on Monday.
A son of Eskendereya, and $335 000 buy from this year’s Fasig Tipton Gulfstream Sale, Last Voyage was given a confident ride by William Buick to lift the spoils in a novice stakes over 1021 going away and looks a nice type in the making.
Trained by Charlie Appleby, Last Voyage holds an entry in the Listed totepool Two-Year-Old Trophy later in the year.
Last Voyage, the first foal of his dam, is out of the unraced mare Shipboard Romance, a daughter of Pulpit and Captain’s Lover.
The latter, herself a half-sister to fellow Fillies Guineas winner Ebony Flyer, was South Africa’s Equus Champion 3YO Female Miler in 2008, and also landed the G3 Prix du Pin in France and Matchmaker Stakes in the US.
In all, Captain’s Lover won four major stakes races and also ran third in the G1 Paddock Stakes and fourth in the G1 Prix de la Foret. The daughter of Captain Al has also made waves in the sales ring –her daughter Song Of Happiness fetched R3.2 million at the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Lammerskraal purchased The Vapors (a Var filly out of Captain’s Lover) for R3.6 million at this year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
