The Lammerskraal Stud bred Pilou, so unluckily beaten at his previous outing, made amends with a convincing win at the Vaal on Thursday.
Trained by Sean Tarry for owners Mike and Norma Rattray, Pilou was given a superb ride by jockey S’Manga Khumalo, who got the top-weight (Pilou was shouldering 60kgs) to score a neck victory over a mile.
A son of Lammerskraal’s late, great sire Western Winter (responsible for, among others, last season’s Champion First Crop Sire What A Winter), Pilou has now won three, and placed in six other, of his ten outings to date and he appears unlikely to stop here.
Pilou, a half-brother to G1 Woolavington 2000 winner Viva Maria, is a full-brother to Lammerskraal’s exciting new broodmares Bichette and Blizzard Belle.
His talented three-parts brother Warrior’s Rest, like Pilou and Bichette trained by Sean Tarry, is set to make a return to the track this Saturday when the 3yo lines up in a progress plate over 1450m at Turffontein.
The siblings were produced by G3 Jacaranda Stakes winning dam Bardot (Badger Land), who is in foal to Lammerskraal’s in-form resident sire Visionaire.
