While Lammerskraal continues to battle the draught (the dams are but 30% full and oathay crops have failed), their paddocks continue to be greeted with the arrival of some beautifully bred foals.
One of the most eye catching foals born at Lammerskraal this year is this colt by champion sprinter and leading first crop sire What A Winter out of Go Deputy’s Listed Queen Palm Stakes/East Coast Cup winner Deputy Ryder.
Another Lammerskraal foal to catch the eye is this magnificent Silvano filly out of G2 Camellia Stakes winner Bichette.
Bichette’s own sister, the flying filly and record breaker, Blizzard Belle also has a lovely filly by hot young sire Querari, whose half-sister Quidura is bound for the Breeders’ Cup.
Among the foals born at Lammerskraal thus far is a lovely Visionaire filly out of triple graded winner Sweet Virginia.
The latter, whose wins included the G3 Winter Derby and G3 Final Fling Stakes, has more than made her mark at stud, with Sweet Virginia’s foals including former Sophomore Sprint winner Strongman (by Stronghold). The latter, now racing as Horse Of Fortune, has also enjoyed considerable success since being exported to Hong Kong winning the G3 The Premier Plate and banking over HK$10 000 000 in prize money.
Sweet Virginia, dam of Visionaire’s G3 Winter Guineas third son Vilikazi, is also dam of the very promising three-year-old Do It Again, who is unbeaten in two starts and who looks destined for bigger and better things.
Aquila Rapax, a stakes winning sister to triple G1 winner Set Afire, has a filly by Master Of My Fate at foot, while the regally bred stakes winning Dubai Gina (she is from the same family as hot young sire and G1 winner Helmet, 2016 G1 Prix Jean Luc Lagardere winner National Defense, as well as recent G3 Dick Poole Stakes winner Anna Nerium) has a colt by outstanding young sire Gimmethegreenlight at foot. (Dubai Gina ran third to Lammerskraal’s own Viva Maria in the 2012 G1 Woolavington 2000 and must rate an exciting broodmare prospect herself!)
Visionaire has some exceptional foals conceived in his first season at Lammerskraal including this lovely filly out of Nacarat’s granddaughter Ventura.
