Weekend treble for Lammerskraal

Weekend treble for Lammerskraal

Lammerskraal Stud has been enjoying a tremendous run of success of late, with their recent triumphs including Bulleting Home’s facile win in the recent G3 Kings Cup.
The farm had three more impressive winners this past weekend, with all three looking likely to build on their Saturday scores.

The blue blooded Warrior’s Rest, a R900 000 buy from the 2016 CTS Ready To Run Sale Presented by Lanzerac, made all the running to break his maiden by 3.25 lengths over 1400m for trainer Sean Tarry and owner Chris Van Niekerk. A sixth individual first crop winner for dual Equus Champion Sprinter What A Winter (by Lammerskraal’s late Western Winter), Warrior’s Rest is the sixth winner for G3 Jacaranda Handicap winner Bardot, whose previous notable winners include G1 Woolavington 2000 winner Viva Maria and G2 Camellia Stakes winner Bichette- both of whom are now members of Lammerskraal’s increasingly blue blooded broodmare band.

Second of the Lammerskraal Stud winners to score at Turffontein on Saturday was Go Direct, who conquered a star studded field to land the Arthur Havergal, Jacob Kilt, Michael Coetzee Pinnacle Stakes on Henneman Memorial day (amongst those beaten by Go Direct was dual G1 Summer Cup winner Master Sabina). A son of Lammerskraal’s highly successful resident sire Go Deputy, the Geoff Woodruff trained four-year-old has now won five times and earned over R370 000. The Lammerskraal Stud owned gelding, who was runner up in the 2016 Listed Darley Arabian, is one of three winners produced by G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Fair Maiden, a daughter of Western Winter.

Top sprinter Brutal Force, at one time the most expensive horse to go through a sales ring in South Africa, made it career win number eight when downing 3yo Clever Guy, who was in receipt of 6ks, at Turffontein this past Saturday.
The gutsy Mayfair Speculators owned Brutal Force’s three parts brother Mr Roy (by Western Winter out of Brutal Force’s half-sister Chambre), who was third to champion Seventh Plain in the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes at two, recently picked up his fourth career win when successful over 1400m at Greyville.

Lammerskraal will offer a What A Winter three-parts brother, named Red Ranger, to both Brutal Force and Mr Roy, at the 2017 National Yearling Sale –and, with both his sire and dam is flying form, he is bound to prove popular!

A proven top sprinter, Brutal Force (whose G1 Mercury Sprint winning brother Red Ray stands his first season at stud this year) has now earned over R1.8 million and he looks on track for a tilt at the G1 Betting World Computaform Sprint next month.
The former G2 Merchants winner (by Western Winter) is one of five stakes winners produced by Lammerskraal’s late, great broodmare Nacarat, whose son Bishop’s Bounty made a pleasing KZN seasonal debut when a close third to Purple Tractor at Scottsville on Sunday.

Lammerskraal, whose resident sire Visionaire was in the news recently following his son Africa Rising’s impressive score in the G3 Byerley Turk, is well represented with 16 lots at the 2017 National Yearling Sale –watch this space!

Visionaire himself has 10 quality yearlings on offer at this week’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, including a half-sister to nine time stakes winner Fox Hunt (Lot2), a half-sister to G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge winner Intergalactic (Lot 5), and a colt out of Golden Slipper winner Dignify (Lot 93).
